About ADIA

Welcome to the Australian Drilling Industry Association!

The Australian Drilling Industry Association (ADIA) is the national organisation for the Australian
drilling industry.

ADIA is a not-for profit organisation with over 800 members made up of drilling contractors, suppliers,
consultants and regulators. We are the peak body representing the drilling industry nationally; as an association we provide training, resources, conferences, networking, news, advocacy and more for our members and the wider industry.

Together with our members, we support the advancement of the drilling industry nationwide. We also conduct the National Waterwell Driller’s Licencing Exams on behalf of the National Uniform Drillers Licensing Committee (NUDLC), ensuring drillers meet competency requirements and uphold industry standards.

At ADIA, we are proud to be an organisation built by members, for members. Our Board of Directors comprises highly experienced and knowledgeable professionals from the drilling industry, all driven by a shared passion for advancing and supporting the industry’s growth and success.

Our members represent diverse sectors of the Australian drilling industry, including mineral exploration, onshore coal and energy, waterwell, geotechnical, environmental, and civil infrastructure. ADIA members are committed to advancing professionalism in the drilling industry by upholding high standards in safety, environmental impact, training, equipment design, and site compliance.

ADIA’s mission is to support industry growth and professionalism by providing members with essential resources and fostering collaboration. We value member feedback, working together to ensure a strong, united future for the drilling industry.

Who are our members?

ADIA’s membership is diverse, reflecting the many facets of the drilling industry.

The largest group consists of drilling contractor businesses, ranging from owner-operators with one or two drill rigs to large-scale companies managing fleets of 50 rigs or more. Many are long-standing family-owned businesses, now in their second, third, or even fourth generation.

Another significant sector includes manufacturers and suppliers that provide the essential, often highly technical equipment and services drilling contractors rely on. These businesses are critical to supporting the wide variety of drilling methods used across the industry.

Our membership also includes technical consultants, engineers, mining companies, and other professionals offering expert services to the broader drilling industry.

Additionally, some members are based overseas, often having started in Australia before expanding internationally. This global reach underscores the influence and expertise of our members.
