In support of this mission we are committed to:
Serving as an education and information resource to all members of the Association
Serving as a communication link to all members.

drilling industry.
Membership
While the Australian Drilling Industry Association is governed by its
Constitution, each member acknowledges that the following matters reflect not only on the
Association, but on his or her integrity within the industry:
The need to act in a professional, competent and safe manner at all times.
The need to comply with all the legislative requirements.
To recognise the needs of clients, and to deal with the clients in a courteous and
professional manner.
To be ethical and honest in all business dealings.
To minimise the impact on the environment.
Each member also acknowledges that the taking up of membership of the Association means
that any breaches of the matters set out above can result in expulsion or suspension from
the Association.
What is the
ADIA ?
Within Australia there are some
1700 drilling rigs of all shapes and sizes, and the
industry supports between 15,000 and 17,000 people in all sectors, including supply,
operations, consulting and government.
Many drilling rigs, particularly in the mineral and deep artesian water sectors work up
to 1000 kilometers from their home base. In most cases, necessity has become the
mother of innovation, and Australia does have a reputation for innovation in the drilling
industry.
The Association currently has over 800 corporate members, branches in all States and
Territories of Australia, liaison officers in the United States and Republic of South
Africa, and a substantial number of overseas members.
Members of the Association are conducting drilling operations in all the continents of
the world, because of their skill and expertise.
The Association operates from a Federal Office based in Melbourne, and has a permanent
Executive Officer and two part time staff who work 30-35 hours per week each. The
Association is governed by a Board of Directors, elected on a State basis.
There are 12 Directors and all positions are voluntary, with each Director paying his
own costs, including travel and accommodation to Board meetings. This is a very
substantial commitment to ensure the future of the industry.
The Association has nearly all of the major companies as members because of an
understanding of their real needs. What must be pointed out however, is that some
80% of our members have three rigs or less. Our largest member employs 1000+ people,
and our smallest is a one man band. A three rig or less operation employs from 8-10
people downwards.
In 1990, we made a conscious decision to change the direction and objectives of the
Association, with the aim of making the Association as professional as possible, provide
training services for members, upgrade & vary the type of conferences that were
provided for members, and adopt a total business approach. This included a total
revamp of our industry journal, "Australasian Drilling".
The change of direction has worked. From a base of 265 members in 1990, we now
have over 800, we have spent over $193,500 of members money in developing training
courses, for the benefit of our members. Our ISO 9000 Q-Base quality assurance
program is recognised world wide, and the Association itself holds ISO 9000 Q-Base
recognition.
All our training courses, which include diamond coring, contaminated site drilling,
well screens, drilling fluids and high pressure air are nationally registered by the
Australian Government, and the Association is a nationally recognised training provider in
its own right.
We can provide out training programs for members of other drilling industry
Associations on a fee for service basis, and we have already exported training to New
Zealand and the United States of America.
